Every Drop Counts
Recently the city of Hong Kong was blanketed with posters showing a single drop of water splashing into a pool. Each poster bore the words "Hong Kong Against Corruption." The message was clear—integrity or dishonesty permeates a city one person at a time.
Primitive Heart
Some things just don't seem to fit in our modern 21st century. A tribe of headhunters is one of them.
He's Near To Hear
When I was 7 years old, my grandfather was caretaker of a wooded estate. One fall evening I took my toy gun, called for my dog Pal, and headed down a path into the forest. I walked bravely into the woods. Soon, though, it began to get dark and I panicked. "Grandpa!" I shouted.
An Attitude Problem
Jesus told about a servant who, after working in the field all day, was not allowed to eat until he had prepared a meal for his master. He had to stand by until the man had finished eating. Jesus added that the master did not owe his servant even a thank you! (Luke 17:9-10). How could Jesus, who lived among us as "the One who serves" (22:27), seem so heartless?
When You Don't Want To
When it comes to expressing our feelings, few of us are more honest than children. A father was having a struggle to get his 4-year-old son to obey. When asked why he wouldn't do as he was told, the boy said, "Daddy, I just don't want to!"
The God Of The Cosmos
A group of distinguished scientists and theologians gathered in Washington, DC, to participate in the Cosmic Questions Conference. They discussed issues such as these: "Is there a God?" and "Can we believe that there is purpose and design in the universe?"
God Was At Columbine
This item appeared in a newspaper after the 1999 fatal shooting at Columbine High School in Colorado:
People Of Courage
Police found it hard to believe, but an unarmed housewife captured three burglars singlehandedly. The woman had come home and found three men loading household items into their car parked in her driveway. She pulled her van behind their car and then ordered the men to carry her belongings back into the house and sit on the couch until the police arrived. Later, when asked why they didn't escape, she replied, "The Lord was with me. . . . I wasn't going to move my van so they could get away. What was I to do? Run away?"
A Kind Word
A newspaper obituary caught my eye with this statement: "Services for affable fix-it man are today." Instead of focusing on one of the movers and shakers of society, the article told the story of a 79-year-old appliance repairman who was known for his integrity, character, and unquenchable happiness.
